The Business Advisory Group on Migration aims to enable business to play an increased role in shaping migration and skills mobility policy by contributing to the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD), the Global Compact for Migration (GCM) implementation and regional consultative processes.

Chair, Business Advisory Group on Migration

Alfonso Palacios Torres is the Chair of the Business Advisory Group on Migration, hosted at the International Organisation of Employers.
Alfonso is a lawyer from the Universidad Externado de Colombia; an expert in Constitutional Law and Political Science from the Centro de Estudios Políticos y Constitucionales de Madrid; and holds a PhD in Public Law from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.

The GFMD Business Mechanism was endorsed at the 2015 GFMD Summit in Istanbul as a platform for businesses to engage with Governments and other stakeholders on migration. We address issues of workforce mobility, skills and labour market needs matching, fair recruitment and decent work conditions, social welfare and public perception.

Global Compact for
Migration

On September 19th 2016, UN Member states signed the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants which launched a process of intergovernmental negotiations that will result in the adoption of a global compact for safe, orderly and regular migration (GCM) in 2018.

Global Forum on Migration and Development

The Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) is the key international forum to address migration and development interconnections, with a focus on action. It is an informal, non-binding, voluntary and government-led process.
